Janine is offering two six-week classes at Orinda Books:
Writers' Kickoff 2018: New Works Workshop
Sundays, 5:30pm to 7:00pm - January 28 through February 25
Kick off your new year with a commitment to write. In six weeks we will become highly productive writers. With innovative prompts and reading selections, we will de-mystify the writing process, with an organic approach to finding your voice. As we write from life experience, we will share our work and receive feedback following the workshop format. We will have fun, finding humor in the writing process and not taking ourselves too seriously. All genres welcome—nonfiction, fiction, memoir, personal essay. Designed for both beginning writers and those with experience seeking structure and time to write.
Turn up the Heat! Winter Workshop – All Genres
Mondays, 6:00pm to 7:30pm - January 29 through March 5
This winter we’ll look at conflict and tension in our work and we’ll hunt for “the heat” of a story, where trouble is palpable and where the writing is most alive. We will create vibrant fiction and nonfiction inspired by our lives and we will share our work in workshop format. As we deepen our understanding of conflict, we will also look closely at voice, language, detail, characterization and plot. We will have fun and won’t take ourselves too seriously. Class is designed for writers who have been introduced to Diablo Writers’ Workshop classes, as well as those with experience seeking structure and time to write.
