author of

The Importance of Not Being Ernest:

my life with the uninvited Hemingway

in conversation with Mary Volmer

Mark Kurlansky may have the widest range of interest of any writer working today. From Salt to Salmon, Kurlansky has turned his journalist's eye to uncover surprising truths about some of the most ordinary objects. In his latest book, he focuses on the sprawling life and work of Ernest Hemingway while drawing many writer parallels to his own. Travel the world with Mark Kurlansky and Ernest Hemingway in this personal memoir, where Kurlansky details his ten years in Paris and his time as a journalist in Spain -- both cities important to Hemingway's adventurous life and prolific writing.

Mary Volmer is the author of the novels Reliance, Illinois and Crown of Dust. She teaches at Saint Mary’s College (CA).
